TOEIC Vocabulary Lesson - Quote
Jul 29, 2023When you learn a new word, build you vocabulary with all forms of that word. When possible, try to start with the verb form - the verb will best show you the meaning of the word and the word family.
Quote as a verb means to estimate the cost of something.
- We generally quote this service at a higher rate for new customers.
- I can quote you on both apartments if you like.
Quote as a noun means the written estimate of the cost of something.
- Can you please provide a quote for the services you offer?
- The quote for the apartments was a lot higher than my budget.
Quotation is also a noun meaning the written estimate of the cost of something. We tend to use quote in spoken English and quotation in written English.
- Thank you for sending your quotation for the cost of the project. The planning team will review it and get back to you within a week.
- I have enclosed our quotation for both apartments.
👉 Keep in mind the best way to remember this or any vocabulary in English is to take the word or phrase write it in a sentence that's true for you or true in your world and then memorize your sentences.
